What it is

Chemical properties

PAX is the potassium salt of amyl xanthic acid. Like other xanthates, it works by chemically bonding to sulphide mineral surfaces through its sulphur atoms, rendering the particle hydrophobic so it attaches to air bubbles and reports to froth.

Application

How it’s used

Used as a primary or secondary collector in copper, copper-gold and polymetallic sulphide flotation circuits, particularly where coarser particle recovery is required.

Used with / for
  • Copper sulphides (chalcopyrite, bornite)
  • Gold associated with sulphides
  • Lead and zinc sulphides
Storage & handling

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from acids and oxidisers; xanthates decompose with heat/moisture and can generate carbon disulphide.

Safety

Flammable solid; may emit CS2 on decomposition. SDS provided with every shipment. Full Safety Data Sheet (SDS) supplied with every consignment.
