What Are Flotation Reagents?

Chemistry lab

Flotation reagents are the chemicals that separate valuable sulphide minerals from waste rock. Collectors (xanthates) make target minerals hydrophobic so they attach to air bubbles. Frothers control bubble size and stability. Modifiers — depressants, activators and pH regulators — adjust which minerals the collector attaches to, improving selectivity.
