A long-chain xanthate collector widely used for the flotation of coarse, slow-floating sulphide particles, including copper and gold-bearing sulphides.
PAX is the potassium salt of amyl xanthic acid. Like other xanthates, it works by chemically bonding to sulphide mineral surfaces through its sulphur atoms, rendering the particle hydrophobic so it attaches to air bubbles and reports to froth.
Used as a primary or secondary collector in copper, copper-gold and polymetallic sulphide flotation circuits, particularly where coarser particle recovery is required.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from acids and oxidisers; xanthates decompose with heat/moisture and can generate carbon disulphide.
